DESCRIPTION
Central sensitization has been linked to numerous physical conditions including asthma, irritable bowel syndrome and chronic pain syndromes such as fibromyalgia. Peer-reviewed research is presented that supports the causes of central sensitization and the etiology of fibromyalgia. Current treatment of fibromyalgia is discussed and peer-reviewed evidence is presented suggesting that understanding the etiology of fibromyalgia may lead to more effective treatment protocols.
LEARNING OBJECTIVES
1.Upon completing this course the participant will be able to identify key components of central sensitization.2.Upon completing this course the participant will be able to understand the peer-reviewed literature regarding the causes of fibromyalgia.3.Upon completing this course the participant will be able to evaluate the protocols for fibromyalgia treatment.4.Upon completing this course the participant will be able to evaluate the proposed treatment protocols for fibromyalgia.5.Upon completing this course the participant will be able to formulate treatment protocols based on the etiology of fibromyalgia.
